Repair corrupt 2GB .pst file

Microsoft Outlook 97 – 2002 stores .pst files in ANSI (American National Standards Institute) format and have a size limit of 2 GB, whereas Microsoft Outlook 2003 and above versions stores .pst files in Unicode format and supports .pst files more than 2 GB.

Many people use PST files as a solitary e-mail storage solution and further face problem with .pst files as they become corrupt.

Reasons for .pst file corruption:

  1. Corruption in .pst file size due to compact operation
  2. Improper shutdown of the system before exiting the Outlook application
  3. PST files used over the network
  4. PST file corrupted due to 2 GB file size limit

What happens when a .pst file exceeds 2 GB size limit?

Whenever a .pst file reaches or exceeds 2 GB size limit, .pst file becomes corrupt and Outlook will not allow you to open or add new data to it.

Microsoft provides a utility called the Inbox Repair Tool to repair corrupted .pst files, but this utility is not sufficient in repairing oversized files. Running the compact operation on an oversized file and running inbox repair tool may result in loss of important attributes.

Microsoft does not have a built-in way to rescue the oversized PST file that is inaccessible.
However, Microsoft has released several service packs that will not allow adding any new data when the PST file approaches the 2GB limit. To a certain extent, this mechanism can prevent the PST file from being oversized.

If the .pst file reaches 2 GB limit, outlook does not allow you to perform any operations such as send/receive e-mails, make notes, set appointments, etc., and further causing data loss.

How to rescue an oversized .pst file?

To repair a .pst file corrupted due to 2 GB size limit, use Disk Doctors Outlook Mail Recovery (.pst) an advanced pst repair software, which repairs and creates a healthy .pst file which can be imported back to Microsoft Outlook.

Outlook Mail Recovery (.pst) Software does not truncate the file; instead it creates an empty .pst file and re-creates all those entries again. In this overall process, the junk entries, unwanted temporary data is ignored and user gets a new healthy .pst file. We would suggest before attempting anything you should always take the backup of your corrupted .pst file and than use demo version of Outlook Mail Recovery (.pst) to confirm the chances of repairing your corrupt pst file.

Thank you! It is nice to deal with professionals!
In spite of my PC being re-imaged, having several applications installed and being used daily for about a week, your product was able to recover most of my lost files!
