Recover Lost partitions from Windows

Windows partitioning tool has come to an advanced level, in earlier versions of Windows especially in Windows 98 or earlier ones we used to boot the drive using a bootable floppy and then using a DOS external command “Fdisk” to create partitions.

With Fdisk we had limitation of creating only one primary partition which was overcome in subsequent releases such as Windows NT etc. The installation media can be used to boot the machine and the Windows installer has inbuilt tool to create partitions. Once we have installed Windows we can manage partitions using Windows Disk Management tool called “diskmgmt.msc”.

This tool allows us to create partitions and provides advanced partition management options. When Windows disk management tool was not available, third party tools like paragon disk manager, partition magic or Acronis Disk management tools were and are still available. They allow resizing or moving the partition, which even Windows Disk Management tool is unable to handle.

Nevertheless, loss of partition is catastrophic. These 512 bytes of information if lost could prove fatal as then there is no information left which can tell the OS, which drive to boot and which drives begins from which sector of the drive. All the primary, extended, and logical drives are lost.
